You can use either iTunes file sharing, or the bonus WiFi feature. After enabling it from the settings panel, simply tap on the WiFi button in the top right corner of the Library panel and follow instructions. You will need to be on the same network as your computer for it to work.
Tap on the iPod button in the top right corner of the Library panel and choose the desired file.
Tap on the Globe button in the top right corner of the Library panel. Navigate to your favorite website and play a video or audio file as you normally would.
Swift currently support the same formats your device supports. Some of which are: mp4, m4v, mov, wav, mp3, aac, m4a, aif, caf, etc. See iPhone, iPod, iPad specs for details.
Tap and drag around the play button, think of the play button as a knob. You can start the gesture as close to the play button as you want and move further away for greater control. You can also just swipe up/down anywhere in the player to adjust playback speed. You can even double tap to toggle between two of your favorite speeds.
After you open the file to play, double tap on the home button and swipe right in the bottom list of apps that will show up. You will see player controls and an AirPlay icon which will allow you to choose which device to connect to. If you do not see an AirPlay icon, make sure you are connected to the same WiFi network that the device is on. Changing video speed over AirPlay does not work, but a workaround is to use Mirroring.
Tap on the info icon in the bottom right corner of the thumbnail. Alternatively you can go into edit mode, select the files you want to deleted, then tap on delete to do it all at once.
Open your email, tap and hold on the attachment and it will ask you which App to open it with. Swift should be listed there.
Open DropBox, open a video or audio file, star it, and after it finishes downloading the button in the bottom right corner (downward arrow) will become active. This button will open a list of apps that can open this file, one of them will be Swift.
Unfortunately Apple doesn't give 3rd party apps access to voice memos. A workaround would be to download your voice memos to your computer, then importing them into Swift using WiFi or iTunes File Sharing. To download voice memos, it's a bit tricky using iTunes, so I suggest using a free application like i-funbox to help you. If you need to access voice recordings without this workaround, I suggest you use a different voice recording app that supports opening recordings with other apps, like our own iSaidWhat?! recorder.

Tips

  • Double tap the star button to save a bookmark without a note.
  • Swipe up/down anywhere in the player to change playback speed with greater control.
  • Double tap the player to do an A/B speed toggle.
  • Swipe left/right anywhere in the player to jump the amount of seconds that you select in the player's options menu.
  • Swipe left/right with two fingers to jump between existing bookmarks.
You can open any website with Swift straight from Safari with a special bookmark.

  1. Open Safari to any site.
  2. Add a Bookmark, rename it to 'Open with Swift' and Save.
  3. Edit that bookmark's address and replace it with the following:
    javascript:location.href='swift'+location.href.substring(4);
  4. Try it. Navigate to any site in Safari and tap on that bookmark.

If you copy a URL anywhere outside of Swift, the next time you open Swift it will give you an option to navigate to that URL, which is convenient.
If you have a long thumbnail title that's trimmed in the library or history view, you can tap on it to scroll it.
If you have a bunch of files you want to import, just zip them up and import it either via WiFi or iTunes File Sharing. Swift will unzip that file and even preserve existing folder structure.
When using variable playback speed, tap on the remaining time (right of the scrubber bar) to toggle between actual playback time, vs real time.
You can tap on the scrubber knob and drag your finger down before sliding left/right. The further down your finger is, the more precise the left/right scrubbing will be.
Whenever you have a scrollable list, you can always tap on the status bar (where the time is) to quickly scroll all the way to the top.
If you wanted to trim a video (local videos only), you can "Open In..." > "Save to Camera Roll", go into your Camera Roll, trim it there, go back into Swift > iTunes Library > More > Camera Roll > and select the trimmed video to import it back into Swift. Simple :)
If you have a web file that you've downloaded, it will remember its original URL. So if you later decide to save space by deleting the downloaded file from your library, it will revert to a web file in your play history. And if you need to redownload that file later, you'll be able to.

Issues

To change YouTube quality, go to settings within Swift browser and choose to Use Native Player. Start playing a YouTube video and you will be able to change quality in the YouTube player settings. Once you change quality, Swift will open the higher quality video.
Certain sites stream videos, and streaming videos do not allow for speed to be changed, or sometimes even downloaded. It's kind of like live TV vs Video On Demand.
Vimeo sometimes serves streaming videos on the iphone, but not on the iPad. You can try scrolling all the way to the bottom of the page and tapping on 'View non-mobile version of this page'. Now try playing videos from this non-mobile site, it should work better. However you may need to first delete that video from your library and history if you ever tried opening it before.
Sometimes sites insert video ads before playing the video you chose. Try stopping and playing the video from the web again. If that doesn't work, in Swift browser's menu, there is an option to open the next video in the native player. This will ensure that the ad playback will count and allow for the real video to play after it.
